Routine dental Check-up and Cleaning

Regular visits to the dentist and cleaning are the first step to maintain a healthy smile. It is often perceived that you only visit the dentist to treat the dental problems, but the best step you can take for your oral health is to prevent dental problems with routine dental check-ups. Every 6 monthly check-up and cleaning allow us to examine not only your teeth but also the surrounding gums and soft tissue to keep you informed about the potential dental problems and to remove the plaque and tartar that regular brushing and flossing has left behind. Cleaning and polishing the teeth with fluoride application leaves your teeth stain free and retains a healthy smile. With routine dental check-up and taking bite wing radiographs we can pick up early development of decays and periodontal disease and can provide a best way to care for your dental problems.

Preventive Dentistry

We at Greenway Dental, believe treating the teeth at the earliest stages will prevent extensive damage and preserve the optimal oral health. There are certain areas of the mouth that are hard-to-reach, especially the chewing surfaces of premolars and molars, which can attract food particles and decay-causing bacteria. We recommend placing dental sealants which are typically applied to children’s teeth as a preventive measure against tooth decay soon after the permanent teeth have erupted. Fissure sealants may also benefit adults who struggle with teeth that are highly sensitive to tooth decay. Sealants last from three to five years and only provides protection when it is fully intact. If your sealants come off let us know and Call us on (02) 88343225 to schedule an appointment to be re-sealed.

Gum disease

Gum Disease is one of the most common oral health conditions for teeth loss among adults. Poor oral hygiene, pre-existing medical conditions and genetic predisposition are some of the reasons for establishment of gum disease.  Some of the signs and symptoms of gum disease includes but not limited to

*Bleeding on brushing    *Swollen gums    *Loose tooth    *Bad breath   *Receding gums   *Formation of pockets

Identifying the disease early and prompt treatment is required to control and maintain the gum disease. we often recommend a thorough scaling and supplement with deep cleaning or root planning and curettage. Sometimes, antibiotics are also administered. This is followed by frequent 3 monthly check-ups to assess progress. If even after following all the above measure, we are unable to control gum disease then we may require the expertise of a specialist to treat advanced gum disease.

If some reason, you are unable to reach our office right away, here is the list of common emergencies patients face and how to manage:

Dental Pain/Abscess

If you notice facial or gum swelling, please see your GP to get a prescription for Antibiotics to reduce the dental pain and abscess.

Avulsed tooth

Has the tooth come out due to trauma? Do you still have the tooth? Then carefully rinse of the debris and place the tooth back into the original place, if it is not possible, store  the tooth submerged in milk and approach the dental surgery immediately. The sooner the tooth is placed back in the socket better is the prognosis of the treatment.

Cracked tooth

This often happens with the molar and premolar teeth due to excessive chewing forces. A partial or complete fracture of the tooth is noted with sensitive to hot and cold, pain on chewing and relief with release of pressure. Usually seen in a tooth with no visible sign of decay or trauma. Extent of pain depends on the severity of the crack. Try to avoid chewing on that side and seek help from your dentist who can access the prognosis of the tooth and provide treatment accordingly.

Broken filling /Crown

Broken filling could be due to excessive load or due to recurrent decay under an old restoration. Crown can fracture or deboned.  Please preserve the crown so it can be recemented if need be. Call us to make an appointment.

Fracture of the Jaw

Due to Trauma if you have a fractur of the jaw or excessive bleeding, do not delay please reach out to your local emergency hospital to seek opt treatment.

Extraction

Tooth extraction is the removal of teeth. Many patients fear the tooth extraction and try to delay and avoid the procedure. As much as we aim at preserving and restoring your permanent teeth for a lifetime, there are circumstances where extractions are the only viable treatment.  Some of the main reasons for extraction of teeth are

  • Grossly decayed teeth which cannot be restored
  • Periodontally compromised teeth (loose teeth)
  • Impacted teeth causing pain and swelling
  • Extraction of teeth to make room for orthodontic correction
  • Remaining roots which are infected or cause of infection.

We at Greenway Dental use great care and skill when performing a tooth extraction to ensure that your experience is as comfortable and painless as possible. We will also provide you with detailed post-treatment care instructions. Prior to extraction of hopeless teeth, our dentist discusses the reconstructive treatment options of the teeth if necessary, which ensures that your smile isn’t left incomplete for long.

Due to Jaw size/ tooth size discrepancy in the development, these days most mouths simply don’t have the space to accommodate 3rd molars(wisdom tooth), resulting in dangerous impaction, pericoronitis and a  higher risks of decay. We do perform extraction of Impacted wisdom teeth if needed. Teeth Whitening
Teeth can discolour and stain for several reasons. There are 2 types of staining
  • Intrinsic – Often intrinsic stains (like fluorosis, Drug induced, aging) are hard to get rid of
  • Extrinsic – Extrinsic stains (coffee, tea, Wine, smoking) could be removed with cleaning and polishing.
All other stains which do not get removed with above procedure can be eliminated with whitening and most of the intrinsic stains with cosmetic restorations (composite/porcelain Veneers or crowns). Teeth whitening is the most popular procedure.  Its less invasive and most affordable solution to have a better smile. Here at Greenway Dental, we can help you achieve a brighter, whiter smile for any occasion. Our teeth whitening can be applied in two ways:
  • In chair Whitening-    Done in a single appointment at our clinic where 37% hydrogen peroxide gel is placed on your teeth (with blocking the soft tissue) and a UV light is used to activate the gel which speeds up the teeth whitening process. Usually recommended for instant whitening (wedding).
  • Take home whitening – Customised whitening trays are prepared and a whitening kit with hydrogen peroxide gel (usually 6% or 9%) is usually dispensed.  Patient is given the kit to use it for approximately 3-5 hours a day for 2-3 weeks.
Teeth Whitening results are not permanent but you can top it when required. Avoiding contributing factors like tobacco, coffee, tea etc,.. would prolong the results of whitening. To schedule your personalized consultation at our friendly dental office, we invite you to

Dental Restoration

Dental fillings are direct restorations, the preferred treatment for replacing the attrition/abrasion, decayed or fractured portion of a tooth, restoring the tooth’s function, structure, and aesthetics.

At Greenway dental we recommend both amalgam and composite restoration to best suite in accordance with the patient’s requirement and longevity of restorations.

Inlay/Onlay

Direct restorations are not the only choice of treatment to replace attrition /abrasion decayed or fractured teeth in some cases and may not be appropriate. When the restoration involves more then 2-3 surfaces of the tooth and would require more durable and stronger restoration on the posterior teeth, its recommended to have an indirect restoration which are prefabricated in lab and bonded or cemented on to the teeth.

At Greenway Dental, Dr. Krupalini would access the teeth and advise the appropriate treatment required.

Cosmetic Dentistry

Veneers

Some cosmetic flaws may seem small but it may weigh heavy on person’s self-confidence. Some of the flaws are listed below-

  • Discrepancy in the shape and size of tooth
  • Worn dentition or Cracked tooth
  • Gaps between the teeth
  • Crowding or overlapping
  • Permanent Discolouration on teeth

One of the easiest and most effective ways to overcome these flaws and improve the appearance is with either direct veneers (composite) or Indirect veneers (porcelain) on aesthetically visible teeth.

Veneers are a thin shell of composite or porcelain covering the front surface of your teeth allowing to redesign the size, shape and colour of the teeth.  Composite veneers are directly bonded on the teeth. Takes only one visit to prepare, fast and cost effective.  Whereas porcelain veneers are fabricated, by preparing the tooth, taking impression which is sent to lab to fabricate thin shells of porcelain, which is cemented with a direct bonding agent. At least requires 2 visit to complete the procedure. Porcelain veneers are stain resistance, more naturally appearing and minimally invasive.

At Greenway Dental, Dr. Krupalini specialises in the art of veneer design and placement and will take time to ensure that the results match your personal characteristics and aesthetics.

Root Canal Treatment (RCT)
When tooth has a crack, trauma, Severe wear, deep decay or recurrent decay under an old existing restoration reaching the pulp everyday task like eating, talking and drinking hot or cold fluids can be painful. Eventually the nerves get exposed to bacteria, get infected and forms an abscess.  Root Canal Treatment (RCT) is recommended to save the infected tooth from extraction and subsequent tooth replacement.  Root Canal Treatment also prevent the infection from entering your bloodstream and impacting your systemic health and wellness.   Root Canal Treatment can be done in single visit or might take 3 visits to complete. It involves 3 steps-
  • Extirpation of pulpal tissue and dressing
  • Bio mechanical procedure- Cleaning and shaping of the canals.
  • Obturation- filling the root canal space with rubber points to seal the apex.
Root canal treatment is successful in most cases. If you take good care of the treated tooth, it may last for many years and possible for the rest of your life. Once completed, a definitive restoration is placed to seal the coronal portion of the tooth. All Root canal treated tooth becomes brittle and discolour over a period, hence its commonly recommended to Crown the tooth after the RCT is completed.   Natural teeth are preferred, as they are usually stronger, easier to maintain, more efficient for biting and chewing, than artificial replacements. But for some it could be incredibly scary procedure and the fear of pain associated with it puts them off to seek Root canal treatment (RCT). At Greenway Dental, you can trust and count on us to provide a relaxing, pleasant and pain free dentistry.  Call us on (02) 88343225 to book an appointment.
